The world is a crazy place now...and well, all the time really. 2024 felt like a time to heal from the pandemic. A time to regain some semblance of normalcy. A lot of offices were implemented a hybrid schedule. People had the sniffles without freaking out. The recession never really quite happened as people had feared. Or maybe it happened, but quietly. Kinda like "quiet quitting." Do you remember that?
Well, if the pandemic forced us to face our own mortality and prioritize what was important in our lives, the hazy fog of peacefulness that settled on me over these past few years has lulled me into a false sense of safety. Of course, the world remains turbulent-in all times. The cycle of destruction and violence never completely goes away. But at least in my little bubble, all was well.
Throughout it all, both the good times and the bad, I have been reading. I read ACOTAR finally. I read the first two books of the Empyrean series and I loved them both in different ways, for different reasons. While the first book of ACOTAR was kind of a dud, the remaining ones were on fire. While the first Empyrean book was action and sizzle, the second one was all one big argument...But all in all, I really enjoyed reading in the Romantasy genre.
It was escapism at its finest. I highly recommend the ACOTAR and Empyrean series (third book out in January 2025) for those who may need to escape from life's realities now more than ever. It's okay. You're allowed to do this. Leisure is a luxury, I understand. But if you have time to doom scroll, you have time to read. Happy reading everyone.
